Toshiba has been supplying flameproof motors that are manufactured in Japan and Germany since the 1980s. The current LV flameproof motors have a modern design and are jointly manufactured by our alliance in Germany to the highest quality standards.


While much of the flameproof motor market is supplied with a protection level of Group IIB - a less stringent and easier level for manufacturing, Toshiba chose to supply the highest protection level - Group IIC and to stock this range in Australia.


This Group IIC level does not only satisfy the requirements of the oil and gas industry, but also the fast-growing Hydrogen industry – where Group IIC is compulsory and the only choice when it comes to electric motors. The German engineering and manufacturing provide the user with confidence and reliability to utilise this high-precision equipment – the flame path is to the precision level of 0.001mm.


Toshiba also supplies flameproof motors for underground mining as we have certified our group IIC equipment to the level of Group I. The motor construction is enhanced and the precision level of the flame path is relaxed. When the plant is using Toshiba Group I motors, the user has peace of mind because of our motor’s superior safety and reliability.


All our flameproof motors are assessed and certified by Testsafe in Australia to the IECEx scheme. Toshiba has a group of experienced competent Ex engineers and Ex personnel to fully support our flameproof motors locally in Australia.
